25/26 DPS

Introduction: why did I want to do dps, what do I hope to achieve? What are my plans and what do I need to accomplish them? Address some of my struggles in previous years (motivation, time management, holding myself accountable). Main goal: experience and figuring out what it is I want to do.

29/9/25 – Lego Workshop

During the workshop we was tasked with making Lego models in groups, based on different words given to us.

The first word ‘Rasgarasga’ was not defined for us, and we were instructed to create what came to our minds, without any discussion. My interpretation of this was a place, so I created a sidewalk.

We then put all our models together and connected the different narratives.

Our storyline goes as follows:

The Rasgarasga was an evil robot which ate people and animals. After its destruction the people celebrated, holding a music festival on the beach where the remains washed up.

After this exercise we then walked around and listened to the different table’s interpretations and included 1 detail we liked from each, into our own work.

We decided to incorporate cultists.

This changed our narrative to the following:

The people thought the Rasgarasga monster was evil but it was actually a mech fighter, being powered by 2 pilots. Deciding they did not like this, a group of people sought out to destroy this creation. Branding its destruction as a blessing, they brainwashed people into following them as the true peace bringers instead.

Reflection:

By working in groups we helped to deepen and develop our narratives each time. Without the collaborative aspect, our storylines would have lacked a lot of depth.

We continued this exercise by working with words we each understood, and instead focusing on what they meant to us and how they can be different.

30/9/25 – IP and Copyright Workshop

The workshop taught us about IP and copyright and gave more insight into how they work within different sectors of the creative industry. This gave me insight into some of the problems that can occur and different ways to protect my work.
Working in groups we each stepped into one of the listed roles and discussed how we would approach the specific scenario. I chose to become the Intern/Junior artist as it is what I am hoping to become during this DPS year. This experience allowed me to think honestly and practically about what I would do in this sort of situation.

Global Campus Studios 30/9/25-xx/xx/25

After reading through the call out sheet, I see this as an amazing opportunity to meet new people and explore a field I lack experience in: marketing. This is a heavily collaborative project and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with a range of people in such a flexible way.

The students at UAL, including those in my own class, are diverse and include both international and home students. However, I have found that we often divide ourselves by these groups. I hope this project helps to bridge some of these gaps as I want to learn about different perspectives and how they impact our perception of things. Despite working in such a visual way as an arts student, I have never considered the context of my work on an international scale.

Resonating with different people across cultures is important in making them feel seen and catching their attention. By addressing this in our own projects, we form connections with people and influence how our product or service is viewed. I am excited to take on this proposal and learn how to use this approach in my own work.

30/09/25
I attended the first session of Global Campus Studios. During this session we created a profile for a character who could appear in a children’s book to appeal to a wide range of audiences. As I joined late and there was a lot of external distractions and disruptions I found the task a little confusing. In order to have a better experience next week I intend to book out one of the library rooms instead and take time to read through the emailed material beforehand.

Collaborative character profile

I feel our profile was very unsuccessful as it is overly generic and doesn’t feel like it would be relatable to many people. By being unprepared for the session I did not feel confident in giving much feedback on this task. Moving forward, for future tasks I will plan better to avoid this from happening so I am able to make better use of the time and project as a whole.
